Short Answer: It depends

Long Answer: In MOST cases, heat is actually the answer. Current findings and research are indicating that ice has been shown to actually delay the healing process in cases of acute injury and recovery.

When to use ice:

* Severe swelling (severe trauma/injury, systemic inflammatory responses)

* Nerve pain (arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis)

When to use heat:

* Sore, tired, pulled, stiff, or overused muscles/tendons/joints

* Muscle recovery

* Limited range of motion/painful range of motion

* Stuck fascia

IMPORTANT NOTE: Regardless of which route you choose, remember that heat and cold therapies 1) Can and should be used together 2) Are never seen as "stand alone" healing methods and should be combined with other healing modalities (massage, chiro, PT, Reiki, etc). It is also important to note that for the purposes of this FAQ, cold therapy refers to the local application of ice to an area, not whole body cryotherapy.

1) Don't wait to tell me!! Even though I can't technically touch the area for the first 48hrs after injury (until I get my lymphatic cert), there are still several things I can suggest you do to speed up recovery. Send me a text so I can document your file and tell you which muscles to strengthen/relax until I see you.

2) Topical analgesics ftw! My go-to is Stoppain, but you can use anything that works for you (I just haven't found any that work as well).

3) Remember: Depending on the type of injury, ice isn't the go-to and will usually result in me doubling my work to that area when I see you next. When in doubt, send me a text.

Once you start following/liking health & wellness accounts on social media, the algorithm will BURY you in ads for supplements and do-hickies. Either send me a link or bring in your new impulse purchase so I can see what's what LOL. THAT SAID! Here are a few of the "trendy" items that are actually worth their weight in gold:

* Vibrational massage tools (NOT MASSAGE GUNS) like the one I use here in the office

* Red light therapy! These tools are AMAZING for pain, inflammation, skin, and more.

* Hip Hooks: Either you can go digging into your psoas, or I can. Your pick. LOL

* Pilates anything: Resistance bands fall into this. Bodyweight strengthening ftw. * Acupressure mats (e.g. shakti mats, I have 2): These are fantastic tools to get out of your head in addition to alleviate knots and sore muscles by inducing temporary, local (healthy) inflammation.
